Richard Paterson is a Certified Advanced Rolfer®, trained at the Ida P. Rolf Institute, and is also certified in Craniosacral Therapy. He is a licensed massage therapist in Pennsylvania (#MSG005541) and New Jersey (#18KT010039000). Massachusetts does not require Certified Rolfers to have a license.
He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Union Institute. He has done a lot of different things — high school guidance counselor, planetarium director, and teacher in elementary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels. His primary career of 30 years was with federal land-managing agencies, where his last position was director of Grey Towers National Historic Site.
Through all his occupations, his preoccupation has been running (40-50 miles per week for 60 years). Richard is married to Mary Mastran (48 years) with 2 adult daughters and 3 grandchildren. In 2011 he published a novel — The Year the War Came Home. He began studying Rolfing in 2010 at the age of 62, graduated in 2011, and has been enjoying his encore career ever since.
